New tertiary hospital to be developed in Kulhudhuffushi City

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed plans to develop a new tertiary hospital in Kulhudhuffushi City.

Addressing the citizens of Kulhudhuffushi City, President Solih said a new tertiary hospital with the latest facilities will be developed rather than transforming the existing regional hospital to a tertiary-level hospital.

Noting the people of Kulhudhuffushi has long awaited the island to be established as a city, President Solih said the city now will be developed as the main economic hub of the north. In this regard, the president revealed a tertiary hospital will be developed with state-of-the-art facilities along with a harbour developed to modern standards. He said it has been decided to enhance the transportation system within Maldives as part of the efforts to enahance socio-economic development.

The State Budget 2020 has allocated USD 3.3 million to develop Kulhdhuffushi Regional Hospital to a tertiary-level hospital as part of efforts to develop tertiary level hospitals in 5 areas of Maldives.

During the administration of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, India's NIMS Hospital was contract to develop the regional hospital in Kulhudhuffushi to tertiary standards and provide super specialty services. However, the agreement was later abolished and the project abandoned.
