Difference between capital city and other islands needs to be eliminated: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated Maldives can be developed as a country when the differences between the capital city and other islands are eliminated.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Thiladhunmathi Iruvai Conference, President Solih stated the report compiled to determine the minimum wage showed the difference in the living standards between Male' City and the atolls. The president said comparing the workforce of Male' City and atolls alone shows the difference between the capital and the atolls, noting priority will be given to eliminate all such differences when determining the minimum wage.

Speaking further, President Solih said development should not only be brought to the atolls near Male', adding progress sought by the administration falls on the whole country. The president said the decentralisation system was introduced to the country by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and true development can be brought by the party. He expressed councillors play a major role in achieving the development envisioned for 2020.

Thiladhunmathi Iruvai Conference focuses on the developments to be brought to the area.
