State institutions should not delay or hinder projects: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said appealed to state institutions to conduct tasks in a way which does not hinder or delay development projects.

Addressing the residents of Vaikaradhoo, Haa Dhaalu atoll, President Solih said independent institutions must always be aware and notified of the projects conducted by the administration to ensure the government is held accountable at all times. The president stated if the public have doubts regarding any action or project, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) must confirm if the decision of the administrations are made within the laws and regulations. However, he appealed to conclude any such probes in a way projects are not delayed.

During the gathering, President Solih also said the local council election is the first step of bringing development to the islands, adding councillors elected should not become a barrier to carry out projects. The president said the development envisioned by the citizens of the islands can be made a reality by the councillors. He said the citizens have paved way for the administration to undertake development projects, describing the local council elections as the key.

Furthermore, President Solih spoke on the development envisioned by the administration for Vaikaradhoo, highlighting projects such as constructing a powerhouse and expanding the school. The president assured the administration will work towards seeking solutions for issues faced by the citizens. In this regard, he reiterated the administration will work responsibly although the main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), holds a supermajority in the parliament.
