DJA forms Judges’ Appeal Chamber for 2020

Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has formed the Judges’ Appeal Chamber for 2020.

The Judges’ Appeal Chamber for this year is composed of Justice Dr. Azmiralda Zahir from Supreme Court, Judge Mohamed Niyaz from High Court and Judge Abdulla Ali from Civil Court. The chamber is tasked with overseeing all appeal cases, except cases involving a decision by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on dismissing a judge based on a complaint filed to JSC.

Clause 4 of the appeal chamber regulations state the chamber must be composed of a judge from Supreme Court, a judge from High Court and a judge from another superior court. However, the Chief Justice and any judge sitting in JSC as a representative of a court cannot be appointed to the appeal chamber.

DJA handles the administration of all cases submitted to the appeal chamber.
