Maldivians accept MDP principles more than the coalition: Nasheed

President of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed has stated Maldivians accept the principles of the party more than the policies of the ruling coalition. The leader of the main ruling party made the statement while addressing the residents of Hoarafushi, Haa Alifu Atoll as part of the campaign in the northern atolls for the upcoming local council elections.

In his speech, Nasheed, who is also the Speaker of Parliament, highlighted the efforts of the executive and the legislative branch in implementing the principles of the party. Nasheed especially noted the successful efforts to reform the judiciary in the past year. He added those were in line with the principle to develop the country.

Expressing the administration came to power to reform and develop Maldives, the president of the largest party in the country said the government will always listen to the people. Nasheed said the people have accepted the principles of the party, adding a coalition may hinder the progress of the nation. He further said the people had shown their views in the last parliamentary elections by giving MDP a supermajority.

MDP embarked on a campaign trip to the northern atolls with a strong delegation of 300 people. The delegation led by Nasheed will visit 10 islands in Haa Alifu Atoll and Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
