Male' prison to be annexed for new Dharumavantha School building

Ministry of Education has decided to annex Male' Prison for the construction of the new building of Dharumavantha School.

Speaking at a news conference, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali said the new school building will be constructed in the vacant land between Male' Prison and Villa College while it will also annex the current Male' Prison. The State Budget 2020 has allocated USD 4.2 million to construct the new school.

The education minister further revealed plans to begin the construction, adding the new school will be different from other schools in Male' City. The minister said the design of the school has been completed and the project will be contracted in February. She expressed intent to change all schools in Maldives to run single sessions and to change all existing and new schools to single sessions schools within the first four years of the administration. The education ministry has also decided to develop a single session school in Hulhumale', which will cost USD 3.5 million from the state budget.

Male' Prison is to be transferred to Thilafushi, an industrial island near the capital.
