Administration to launch a programme to produce skilled students

Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has revealed the administration will launch a programme to produce skilled students.

In her address commemorating the new academic year, Education Minister Aishath Ali said the programme will ensure that students who leave school have skills for the job opportunities available. The minister said it is an aim of the administration to produce citizens who can lead a respectable life after studies. She also noted a programme to teach skills would be held next month for students who completed ordinary level last year.

Highlighting there is no relevant law for the sector although the state has provided education for 100 years, Minister Aishath Ali expressed hope to see a law on education to be passed this year. The minister said a law would be helpful in highlighting the roles of the stakeholders and holding them accountable. Furthermore, the education minister revealed 2020 is marked as a year to develop more infrastructure and provide facilities for the sector.

The minister also spoke on the importance of transforming as many schools as possible to single-session schools. In this regard, she said projects to construct more schools would be launched this year. She added the education sector would see the benefits of more powers and authorities granted to the local councils.
