Schools ready for new academic year: Education Ministry

Ministry of Education has stated the schools are ready for the new academic year and teacher recruitment of all schools have been completed.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister of State for Education Fathimath Naseer said the ministry and schools are ready for the academic year 2020. State Minister Fathimath Naseer said the ministry accumulated the necessary text books before the annual holidays. She said teacher recruitment has also been completed as it is currently carrying orientation programmes for new expatriate teachers.

As the year begins, the ministry has admitted 73,067 students to 212 schools in Maldives including Izzudheen School, which is a new government school in the capital. Of the 212 schools, 150 schools will offer single sessions. There are 170 registered preschools in the Maldives, according to the ministry.

In 2020, students from 193 schools will sit in the ordinary level exam while 50 schools will offer advanced level exams.

In 2019, the ministry closed Hulhudhoo School and Shamsudheen School in Addu City, relocating the students to Seenu Atoll School.
