Jumhooree Party (JP) has announced it will hold its primary on February 12 to elect candidates who will compete the upcoming local council elections.
On January 6, JP opened the opportunity to submit applications for the party ticket. Apart from the council slots, the party will grant tickets for candidates wishing to compete in women's development committee elections.
JP said if two or more candidates apply for the same constituency, party ticket will be granted after a primary. However, there will not be a primary vote for candidates wishing to compete in women's development committee elections.
Opportunity has also been opened by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Adhaalath Party (AP) for candidates wishing to compete in local council election on party tickets. Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has announced local council elections will be held on April 4.
