Application for Dhihdhoo housing units being re-evaluated

Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has said efforts are underway to re-evaluate the applications for the housing units in Dhihdhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll.

In a press statement, the housing ministry said the applications are being re-evaluated upon advice from the Attorney General's Office and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The ministry said re-evaluation is being carried out by a special committee formed by the island council, adding the ministry is providing technical support and assistance.

Application for 250 housing units in Dhihdhoo had been opened in 2018. While 440 individuals applied for the housing units, only 140 applicants were deemed eligible. The ministry re-opened application for the remaining 110 units just before the end of the previous administration.

However, several complaints were raised by the residents on the evaluation process. Upon consultation with relevant authorities, the ministry cancelled the previous announcement. The ministry says housing units will be awarded as soon as the revised list of recipients is finalised.
