President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed he has received the report compiled by Salary and Minimum Wage Advisory Board.
In a tweet, President Solih stated the report will be discussed in the cabinet. Establishing a minimum wage is included in his electoral pledges.
Before the report was compiled, Ministry of Economic Development conducted a nationwide survey while the parliament also discussed varied pay rates for different sectors. Salary and Minimum Wage Advisory Board compiled the report taking in to account all the recommendations from the various authorities and institutions conducted on setting the minimum wage. However, the details of the rates have not yet been publicised.
The administration is working to forward the Minimum Wage Bill to the parliament this term. Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail previously said passing the Minimum Wage Bill this year is one of the key targets of the administration.
