The main opposition party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), has extended the deadline to submit nominations for the party’s ticket to compete in the upcoming local council elections.
In a tweet, PPM said it will accept nominations until January 13. PPM had announced it will compete for all the seats in the local council elections. The party has also begun a nationwide campaign.
Apart from PPM, the main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), and the second largest party in the government coalition, Jumhooree Party (JP) have also announced that they will compete for all seats in the elections.
Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) will hold the local council elections on April 4.
