Sarangu Adam Maniku to run for Male' City Mayor

Former Mayor of Male' City Sarangu Adam Maniku has announced he will run for the mayoral position of the capital city in the upcoming local council elections.

In his announcement Adam Maniku revealed he will compete in the primary of the main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), with the aim of promoting the party’s policies under Agenda19 if elected.

Adam Maniku competed independently in the parliamentary elections last year and lost to the MDP candidate. However, he noted the services he had provided over the years and pledged to continue serving the capital city. He was the first ever mayor elected to the capital city back in 2011.

Other candidates who have announced they will compete in the MDP primary for Male’ City Mayor include incumbent Mayor Sifa Mohamed, incumbent Deputy Mayor Shamaau Shareef, Councillor Ahmed Niyaz and Secretary General of MDP Anas Abdul Sattar.

Moreover, former Parliamentarian Alhan Fahmy and former Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu have also announced they will be running for the mayoral position.
