Male' City Council has conducted a meeting with Health Protection Authority (HPA) to discuss installing smoking booths, although no conclusion has been made yet.
The city council also discussed approaches to prevent people from smoking and to reduce the impact of smokers on society. The discussions included installing smoking booths in secluded areas to prevent people from smoking in public areas, according to the city council.
HPA has been running various campaigns to discourage people from smoking. The authority has also been strengthening regulations to mitigate the problem in addition to increasing tax on tobacco items.
Tobacco must be labelled with pictures that depict the dangers of it. Some hotels and restaurants have also been marked smoke-free areas.
