Commissioner of Prisons Abdulla Munaz has pledged to ensure necessary protection and safety for prison officers as they face harassment from inmates.
Amongst reports of violence in Maafushi Prison, a tweet from Commissioner Munaz stated officers face abuse from prisoners from time to time. He futher said preventive measures have been taken to rehabilitate and correct their behaviour.
Local media have reported news of violence in Maafushi Prison, with some inmates and officers being reported injured. Violence broke after inmates complained about slow medical services, according to local media.
