Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has assured action would be taken against resorts which do not follow the policies in issuing service charge.
Responding to complaints by the public that some resorts do not properly issue service charge to the employees, Tourism Minister Ali Waheed said Ministry of Tourism closely observes the policies followed and the amount issued as services charge by resorts. He assured action would be taken against resorts which do not follow the policies and have financial irregularities during audits.
Furthermore, the tourism minister accused a non-governmental organisation named TEAM of taking advantage from resort employees. Ali Waheed revealed TEAM had been pressuring the ministry to make resorts pay the organisation USD 6.50 for each employee.
However, the minister assured there are no plans to follow such demands. The tourism ministry had inspected all tourist establishments in the country in 2019.
