Maldives Meteorological Services (MET Office) has installed an automatic weather station in Hulhumale'.
Speaking to PSM News, MET Office said understanding the weather will be easier with the new weather station installed. The weather station, which was installed under a grant from the Government of Italy, will send updates on rain every 10 minutes.
MET Office expects to issue a more accurate weather forecast with the new set up. MET Office also expects to install an automatic weather station in the capital, Male' City, as it aims to carry research and use data to solve the issue of flooding.
MET Office has several weather stations installed across the country to forecast the weather. The office expects to better the service it provides by publicising the collected data for research purposes. While it currently shares the data it collects via email requests, it plans to provide the details via its mobile application.
