Two companies to develop and upgrade harbours in 6 islands

Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure has contracted two companies to conduct harbour development and upgrade projects in 6 islands.

The state-owned, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), was contracted to upgrade Foakaidhoo Harbour and Feydhoo Harbour, Shaviyani Atoll, upgrade Hangnaameedhoo Harbour, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll and construct the second phase of the Himmafushi Harbour, Kaafu Atoll.

The harbour upgrade in Foakaidhoo will consist of dredging of 39,995 cubic metres and 4,000 cubic metres of channel dredging along with the construction of a 507 metre breakwater, 464 metres of quay wall, 100 metres of revetment and 2,320 square metres of pavement. Additionally, MTCC will install 24 harbour lights, 2 channel lights and 12 mooring blocks. The project is estimated to cost USD 3.623 million and is expected to be completed in 500 days.

The harbour upgrade in Feydhoo will consist of dredging of 18,500 cubic metres and channel dredging of 9,000- cubic metres along with the construction of a 378 metre breakwater, 280 metres of quay wall and 1,400 square metres of pavement. Additionally, MTCC will install 14 harbour lights, 2 channel lights, 10 mooring blocks and 1 ramp. The project is estimated to cost USD 2.145 million and is expected to be completed in 480 days.

The harbour upgrade in Hangnaameedhoo will consist of dredging of 4,645 cubic metres and channel dredging of 404 cubic metres along with the construction of a 204 metre breakwater, 266 metres of quay wall, 160 metres of revetment and 1,330 square meters of pavement. Additionally, MTCC will install 14 harbour lights, 2 channel lights and 12 mooring blocks. The project is estimated to cost USD 2.089 million and is expected to be completed in 300 days.

The development of the second phase of the Himmafushi Harbour will consist of dredging of 18,800 cubic metres and 9,900 cubic metres of channel dredging along with the construction of a 38 metre breakwater, 172 metres of quay wall, and 287 metres of revetment and construct 772 square metres of pavement. Additionally, MTCC will install 11 harbour lights, 4 channel lights, 10 mooring blocks and 1 ramp. The project is estimated to cost USD 1.592 million and is expected to be completed in 365 days.

Meanwhile, Heavy Force Private Limited was contracted to construct a jetty and harbour in Rasgetheem, Raa Atoll and upgrading the harbour in Dhidhdhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll. The jetty and harbour construction in Rasgetheem will consist of expansion and channel dredging along with the construction 145 metres of revetment and 1,360 square metres of pavement. Additionally, Heavy Force will install 14 harbour lights, 2 channel lights, 10 mooring blocks and 1 ramp. The project is estimated to cost USD 3.237 million and is expected to be completed in 420 days.

The harbour upgrade in Dhidhdhoo will consist of construction of a 272 metre breakwater, 33.70 metres of revetment and 938.82 square metres of pavement. Additionally, Heavy Force will install 13 harbour lights, 4 channel lights, 10 mooring blocks and 1 ramp. The project is estimated to cost USD 1.424 million and is expected to be completed in 300 days.
