AG Office to recover money paid to Free Net Private Limited

Attorney General’s Office has submitted a case against Free Net Private Limited to recover the money spent on the development of a case management system for AG Office. AG office submitted their case as Free Net could not complete the work as agreed based on the timeline and proposal specification.

In a statement released by AG Office, Free Net submitted a proposal to develop a case management system at AG office based on the specification given by AG Office. One of the works was bid by AGO office, Free Net submitted their proposal on June 21, 2017.

The project was funded by Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) as a CSR project and the funds were to be disbursed in instalments, according to the statement. However, once Free Net requested payment, MITDC paid the company in full on December 21 conflicting from the agreement. Although the proposal sent by Free Net included the duration of work as 4 months, they could not finish the work and neither were they able to complete the work after several due date extensions.

AG Office clarifies in the statement that it had submitted to reclaim USD 53,826 paid to Free Net. The statement further clarified the office requested Anticorruption Commission to investigate the case in order to identify illicit activities and take necessary actions.
