Ministry of Home Affairs has revealed the special operation carried out by the security forces to combat extremism in Maduvvari Island has come to a conclusion, with the ministry achieving its targets.
Speaking to PSM News about the operation, State Minister of the Ministry Ali Nazeer said the ministry has identified and apprehended individuals who spread extremist ideologies in government’s efforts to mitigate extremism. Moreover, Nazeer revealed children who have been affected have been granted their rights while some have been taken under state care adding extremist ideologies have been embraced by a handful of people and that it is not prevalent in the entire of Maduvvari.
Nazeer further said Maldives Police Services has regained the trust of the community as it established peace and unity in the island. Extremist ideologies have been embraced by a few people in various parts of the country and hence, Nazeer said Maldives Police Services will carry such operations again if it requires.
Speaking to media, media officer of police service said they are currently investigating the case and taking statements from the apprehended. Meanwhile, 3 individuals have been arrested in the operation in Maduvvari.
