Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has temporarily opened the east apron of Velana International Airport (VIA).
The remote apron is unofficially open for jet parking to cater for the increasing number of jets at the season, according to MACL. While the east apron is currently being used to park private jets, MACL revealed around 50 jets land at VIA on average now.
The east apron developed in VIA is 55,000 square meters and can cater to 3 wide-bodied aircrafts, 2 narrow-bodied aircrafts at once. The east apron will be officially used after conducting some more tests, MACL revealed.
The east apron was developed as part of the mega expansion project of VIA.
