Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has begun probe into complaint filed against the Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
The complaint filed by a commoner claimed the parliament speaker misused funds of parliament to visit and meet his party’s activists. Information Officer of ACC said the trip referred in the complaint is a trip made to attend the Southern Conference 2019 held for councilors of southern atolls.
The complaint filed accuses the speaker of meeting activists of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in an official trip made on the expenses of the parliament. However, Communications Director of Parliament Hassan Ziyau refuted the rumors upholding the trip was made to attend the councilors symposium held for southern atolls.
Ziyau further revealed Speaker Nasheed visited Fuvahmulah and Addu City after the symposium on his own expenses adding he attended the symposium as the speaker.
