The Maldives and Egypt has held the first round of Bilateral Political Consultations between the two countries. The Maldivian delegation at the official talks was led by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel, and the Egyptian delegation was led by the Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs of Egypt, Dr. Hany Selim.
The Bilateral Consultations is held to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Maldives and Egypt. At the consultations held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, State Minister Khaleel and Assistant Minister Selim reviewed the ongoing program of cooperation between the two countries and discussed ways to further enhance brotherly relations in various sectors.
Deliberations were focused on enhancing cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, education, culture, tourism, health, fisheries and agriculture, maritime transport, energy and information technology. Key thematic areas such as combating transnational crimes, countering terrorism and radicalisation, climate change, environmental protection, and strengthening regional cooperation, as well as other important issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
