Japan and Maldives finalise components of grant of USD 4.5 million

Japan and Maldives have finalised the components of the grant of USD 4.5 million US dollars extended by Japanese government.

At a ceremony held at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the exchange of notes was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Ambassador of Japan to Maldives Yanai Keiko. The equipment procured under the grant consists of 13 items and will be utilized to enhance security at all the international and domestic airports in the Maldives. The equipment includes liquid scanner, mobile X-ray scanner, handheld metal detector, hand radio, radio for automobile or base, full-frame mirrorless camera, DSLR camera and vehicles ranging from sedan to 4 wheel-drive heavy duty SUV.

In October, Japan extended to Maldives, a grant of USD 4.5 million for further promoting the economic and social development of the Maldives. The grant is utilised towards countering terrorism.
