Foundation works of new international terminal at VIA completed

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has completed the foundation works of the new international terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA). While the works of the foundation laying have been completed, 15% of installing pile caps required for the main pillars have been completed, according to MACL.

Moreover, MACL revealed slabbing on 2000 square metres of ground is completed. The construction of the new terminal is contracted to Saudi Binladen Group for a cost of USD 300 million. The new terminal consists of 40 gates, 36 immigration counters and an aerobridge paving the way to directly walk on to the aircraft from the terminal.

The existing passenger terminal caters 1.5 million passengers a year, while the new terminal can cater up to 7 million passengers.
