High Court of Maldives has accepted the appeal filed on behalf of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom over his five-year sentence.
On November 28, Criminal Court of Maldives sentenced former president to 5 years in prison with a fine of USD 5 million, after he was found guilty of the money laundering charges the state had pressed against him.
The supporters of him and opposition on several platforms have accused the sentence was politically motivated.
