Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has expressed over 18,000 jobs will be created with the opening of the tourist islands.
Speaking at the councilors conference “Viavathi Rajje”, the tourism minister said the islands opened for tourism will be announced soon. The minister said priority while selecting islands for tourism was given to ensure tourism activities are undertaken in the southernmost and northernmost points of Maldives.
Speaking in this regard, the minister revealed with the opening of resorts in these islands, thousands of jobs will be created across 12 atolls.
Meanwhile, highlighting on the islands which are to be developed as resorts, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed 3 resorts will be developed in Haa Dhaalu Atoll as the atoll currently does not benefit from the tourism industry. Only one resort is so far developed in Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
