Environment Minister calls for international support to SIDS

Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has stated Small Island Developing States (SIDS) need support of international organisations such as the European Union, in SIDS' fight against climate change.

Speaking at a meeting held with the European Union delegation attending the twenty-fifth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP25), Minister Dr. Hussain shared the challenges and dangers faced by SIDS due to climate change and called EU and other international organisations to assist in SIDS' fight against climate change.

Environment Minister is attending the COP25 conference to represent Maldives and in his statement at the conference, he remarked the developing needs more financial assistance and support in order to implement the Paris agreement practically. Additionally, he asked for financial support in implementing climate change action plan or Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC).

The minister also participated in the Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion event discussions and the ministerial level discussions on the sidelines of the COP25. During the discussions, minister shared the efforts of Maldives against challenges and dangers of climate change.
