The Bar Council of Maldives has announced opportunities are open for lawyers to register and work as a public notary in the country.

Bar Council is the sole authority to issue public notaries and has decided to grant permission to lawyers who submit registration forms via online or other means. In order to become a public notary, a lawyer or barrister should possess the required qualification and must have worked as a lawyer for three years.

A notary's main functions are to administer oaths and affirmations, take affidavits and statutory declarations, witness and authenticate the execution of certain classes of documents.
