Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has decided to suspend Juvenile Court Judge Abdul Baari Yoosuf for benefiting from the illegal money of Maldives Marketing and Public relations Corporation (MMPRC).
JSC said the commission has been informed by Maldives Police Service that judge Baari was among the individuals who received financial benefits from the embezzled funds of MMPRC and has enough information to conduct a criminal investigation on him. JSC said the decision to suspend judge Bari was made over his misconduct in the affair and that he will be kept in suspension until the matter is settled in court.
Baari was previously the Chief Judge of Criminal Court but was transferred to Juvenile Court in 2017. He has presided over many criminal cases involving political opponents of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom including former President Mohamed Nasheed, former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim and Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla. The guilty verdicts handed down to them were later revoked by Supreme Court, after finding flaws in the trials.
