Civil Court of Maldives has ordered former parliamentarian Ahmed Nihan to pay USD 62,192 to State Trading Organisation (STO) over the failure to settle the lease of a food court.
The lawsuit filed by STO stated Nihan failed to pay rent of the food court stall he has leased at the Southwest harbour of Male' since August 2018. Civil Court has given a period of 6 months to settle the amount.
STO stated the amount he owes totals USD 71,336 US dollars in lease fees and fines. In Nihan's absentia, the Civil Court ordered him to settle over USD 51,880 in lease, maintenance fees and a penalty of over USD 3,890 within 6 months.
Many former government officials and parliamentarians leased food court stalls from the area developed at the Southwest Harbour by STO during the former administration.
