Budget constraints cause operational challenges: ACC

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has stated budget constraints cause challenges in carrying its mandated work operations.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Assistant Investigation Officer Adam Shamil said lack of sound financial capacity and human resources are the biggest challenges it currently faces in carrying its work. Shamil said various programmes started by ACC needs to be discontinued due to lack of a sufficient budget. He said they have the capacity to run planned programmes despite the limited human resource, should the requested budget amounts are granted.

Shamil also remarked the turnover at ACC is very high as the technical staff required to carry research on financial, economic and social aspects in the country cannot be retained due to better compensation packages elsewhere. He said ACC is also working to solve the issue of limited office space, as its portfolio of activities is on the rise.
