Maldives and Turkey discuss social development

Discussions have been held between Maldives and Turkey on enhancing social development and social protection services. The discussions were held at a meeting between Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services of Maldives Shidhatha Shareef and Minister of Family, Labour and Social Services of Turkey Zehra Zumrut Selcuk.

At the meeting held on the sidelines of the first session of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Social Development, both ministers discussed social protection, social development in addition to enhancing social services.

The first Ministerial Conference on Social Development was held under the theme “Ensuring Social Equality and Welfare for all in the Member States: The Opportunities and Challenges” from December 7-9 in Istanbul, Turkey. The conference was attended by ministers, policy makers and experts from the OIC member states, OIC subsidiary, specialised and affiliated institutions as well as from international and regional organisations.

The conference aims to provide OIC member states and partner institutions with an opportunity to discuss the progress achieved on empowering and supporting the family, child welfare, the wellbeing and social security for the elderly and persons with disabilities.
