President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said human rights can only be protected and maintained by sustainable efforts.
Addressing the ceremony held to mark World Human Right Day 2019, President Solih noted ensuring human rights needs more effort than just laws and policies. In this regard, the president said ensuring, protecting and maintaining human rights can only be achieved by sustainable efforts.
Furthermore, President Solih spoke on the importance of collective efforts of the society to ensure human rights, rather than it being a task of government offices, courts or investigative authorities. The president highlighted a commission to protect human rights was established with high hopes, adding with regret the commission was not utilised to its full capacity this year.
In his speech, President Solih assured the commitment of the administration to ensure the protection of the human rights of every citizen, without discrimination.
