Parliament of Maldives has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the lower house of the Parliament of India, Lok Sabha, to strengthen the relationship between the two parliaments and provide training opportunities for secretariat staff of the Maldivian parliament. The agreement was signed by the Speaker of the Parliament of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed and Speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla.
A parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Nasheed is visiting India on an invitation from the Indian parliament. Speaking before the visit, the speaker said the purpose of the trip was to enhance the relationship between the parliaments of Maldives and India.
The parliamentary delegation led by the Parliament Speaker includes Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla, and parliamentarians Ali Azim, Hassan Latheef, Ilyas Labeeb, Hussain Shaheem, Mohamed Aslam and Abdulla Riyaz.
