No corruption accusation is the biggest achievement: Tourism Minister

Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has said the biggest achievement during his first year in office is that no accusations of corruption were raised against him.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of Guesthouse Inspection Training organised by the ministry, Minister Ali Waheed said while the Tourism Ministry was known as one of the most corrupt ministries in the previous administration, no such accusations have been aimed at the ministry under his administration. He said that the ministry has been working in a transparent manner for the past one year, adding the ministry is currently preparing to publicise all statistical information regarding the ministry, including the budget allocations and usage.

Furthermore, Minister Ali Waheed said the entire industry has benefited from the approach of transparency, which dissuades corruption. He said it has been the biggest achievement under his leadership, adding that the trust fund at the ministry has grown to over USD 1.5 million from just a mere USD 336,000.

Minister Ali Waheed attributed the financial gains to modernised management of the ministry that has taken firm action to discourage corruption.
