Parliament delegation departs to India to sign MoU with Lok Sabha

A fifteen-member delegation of the Parliament of Maldives has departed to India to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India.

The parliament said the delegation includes Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed and Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla as well as the secretary general, counselor general and representative parliamentarians from all political parties.

Speaker Nasheed had earlier revealed the objective of the MoU with Lok Sabha was to boost the cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries. He said the MoU will also provide an official framework that will facilitate training opportunities for the Parliament of Maldives, aimed at improving the administration of the parliament.

The parliament is now on a recess of two months.
