All misappropriations of state funds will be prosecuted: ACC President

President of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Mariyam Shiuna has affirmed the commission would not hesitate to prosecute even the smallest misappropriation of state funds.

Speaking during the inauguration of the International Anti-Corruption Day March titled Bandaara Kafa, ACC President Shiuna said corruption is one of the most disruptive habits in the society. She called the public to support its fight against corruption.

Shiuna said ACC will probe into all state officials in its attempt to mitigate corruption regardless of the hierarchy, assuring ACC’s integrity and independence in their investigations. She further said the purpose of the organised walk is also to call everyone in the community to refrain from corrupt acts.

The president of ACC applauded the turnout and said it indicated the extent to everyone’s dissent, and said national development is dependent on the prevention of corruption, theft and embezzlement. She also called on the public to take preventive measures to refrain from corruption as it not only affects public funds, but also the hopes of many people.

Staff from many government offices took part in the Bandaara Kafa March organised by ACC. The commission says the march is the beginning of ACC’s fight against corruption. Various activities have been planned to implement the Zero Tolerance to Corruption initiative of the administration, according to ACC.
