Parliament rejects nominations for Public Representative at JSC

Parliament of Maldives has rejected the nominations sent by the Parliamentary Committee on Judiciary for appointment as the Public Representative at Judicial Services Commission (JSC).

The committee had nominated Hussain Amru and Ahmed Saavee to be appointed to JSC. However, both nominations were rejected by the parliament after 60 parliamentarians voted against the appointment of both Amru and Saavee to JSC. Following the rejection of both nominations by the parliament, the President’s Office is required to reopen the application for the position of Public Representative at JSC.

Six individuals applied for the position during the initial application period. Amru and Saavee were nominated by judiciary committee after interviewing all candidates.

JSC is composed of the Speaker of Parliament, three judges which respectively represent the Supreme Court, High Court and lower courts, representatives from the parliament and the public as well as an appointee by the president.
