All chemical warehouses in Male’ to be relocated to Thilafushi before Dec. 25

Greater Male Industrial Zone Limited (GMIZL) has said all chemical warehouses in Male have been notified to relocate to Thilafushi before December 25.

Managing director of GMIZL Ibrahim Rasheed Aboobakuru said the process of relocating chemical warehouses in Male began in the immediate aftermath of the tragic fire incident that occurred in Male on September 20. Aboobakuru said 31 warehouses are currently being relocated to Hulhumale, while agreements have been signed with 27 companies on relocating their warehouses to Thilafushi. He said 4 warehouses have already been relocated to Thilafushi, while agreements are set to be signed with another 4 companies on relocating their warehouses.

34 warehouses have been constructed in Thilafushi as part of the project to relocate all chemical warehouses in Male’. The construction of the warehouses cost over USD 600,000, according to GMIZL.

The warehouses constructed in Thilafushi consist of containers measuring 320 square feet, 800 square feet and 1000 square feet. GMIZL says the warehouses are insured and well-secured.
