DDCom forwards charges against the perpetrators behind three high-profile murders

The Commission on Investigating Murders and Enforced Disappearances (DDCom) has forwarded the charges against the perpetrators behind the murders of Dr. Afrasheem Ali, Ahmed Rilwan and Yameen Rasheed to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

DDCom said charges against Mohamed Mazeed and Saamith Mohamed, who are accused of perpetrating the murders of Dr. Afrasheem, Rilwan and Yameen, have been forwarded to the PG. The commission said both Mazeed and Saamith are religious extremists.

Mazeed and Saamith have been described by the commission as two of the leading individuals in spreading extremism and conducting the activities of extremist cells in Maldives. They have also been accused of leading a branch of Al-Qaeda in Maldives.

The reports published by DDCom on the murders of Dr. Afrasheem, Rilwan and Yameen pointed to religious extremism as the main cause behind their murders.
