Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has stated five junior colleges planned to be opened in five different locations of the country would teach vocational and academic subjects.
Responding to questions by members of the parliament, Minister Ibrahim Hassan stated five junior colleges would be established by the end of 2023 under the Strategic Action Plan. He mentioned the upcoming new colleges are newly introduced models to Maldives.
The minister remarked the new colleges would have two streams of subjects for students to choose and study for A-Levels or Certificate Level Four. The graduates from the junior colleges would have an ample opportunity to join universities.
Minister Hassan noted a decision on the locations to establish the colleges is yet to be reached. He added the new colleges would have their staff trained from the established institutions and would teach foreign languages.
The concept and curriculum for the colleges have been developed and sent to President's Office with intent to be commenced by next year. The State Budget 2020 has allocated USD 208,000 to establish junior colleges in two islands.
