President forwards Afrasheem murder case to relevant authorities

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent the investigative report on the murder of former Parliamentarian Dr Afrasheem Ali to the relevant authorities.

The president forwarded the reports to Prosecutor General's Office, Attorney General's Office, National Counter Terrorism Centre, Maldives Police Service and the parliament.

Speaking at the function to mark Republic Day of Maldives, President Solih said one of key pledges of the administration is investigating the cases of murdered and disappeared individuals and providing justice to families. The president further said the commission mandated to conduct the investigations under a presidential decree had the case report forwarded to him.

The former parliamentarian was brutally murdered in the stairwell of his residence in the early hours of October 1.

The commission has conducted a thorough investigation about the planning and motives behind the murder and the people who financed the heinous crime.

Prosecutor General's Office raised charges against two individuals over the murder. One individual, Hussain Humam, was found guilty of murdering Afrasheem based on his confession, in addition to evidence and testimony the state presented against him.
