International cooperation required to close all doors enabling terrorism: Defence Minister

Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi has said national, regional and international cooperation is required to close all doors enabling terrorism. The defence minister made the remarks while addressing the No Money for Terror Ministerial Conference on Counter Terrorism Financing.

While addressing the conference held at Melbourne, Australia from November 6-8, Defence Minister Mariya spoke on the Zero Tolerance Policy of the Maldivian administration. Minister Mariya revealed national, regional and international cooperation is required to fight against financing terrorism. She also highlighted the policies initiated by Maldives to counter terrorism.

The No Money for Terror Ministerial Conference on Counter-Terrorism Financing concluded on Friday with India touted as the next host for the event in 2020. Several sessions were held in the two-day conference focusing on the evolution of terrorist threats, the global responses to kidnap for ransom and terrorism financing, the emerging technologies and terror financing risk, the public-private partnerships against terrorism financing, and preventing the exploitation of non-profit organizations for terrorist purposes.
