Teacher salaries expected to be revised in 2020

Minister of Education Dr Aishath Ali has said the new pay structure of teachers has been forwarded to National Pay Commission (NPC) and a positive change of salaries is expected next year.

Speaking at the parliament, the education minister said teachers do not get a fair compensation for their work in schools and the administration is working to offer better compensations. The structures submitted to NPC consists of pay structures of all institutions related to the ministry, in addition to the structure of teachers. She the pay structures will be publicised once finalised.

The education minister said efforts are underway to attend to various concerns of teachers as well. She further said several programmes are also run currently to make teachers well respected amongst the students.

A' level leavers have been invited to work with the teacher as part of the programme. The USD 2.4 billion State Budget submitted to the parliament by Ministry of Finance has an allocated USD 557 million for the education sector.
