Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has said the digitalization of the health sector would allow to provide more services to the population in islands.
Responding to a question when summoned to the parliament, Health Minister Ameen said the lack of innovative digital approaches to service delivery has been one of the biggest challenges in providing a better service in Maldives. He minister said the administration is very determined to decentralise the sector to provide more effective services. He further said 90% of tthe asks related to procurement in health sector is carried digitally while the digitalisation of human resources and other services are currently in progress.
The digitalisation project is scheduled to be completed next year. The ministry is also liaising with the Ministry of Finance to solve issues the state health service providers have in delivering better services. One major areas for discussions is providing a system that disregards the current two tier system of requesting atoll councils for facilities and budget, allowing health service provides to manage themselves.
