Maldivian security forces has apprehended a foreign vessel carrying drugs in Maldivian waters.
The foreign vessel was apprehended by a joint operation from Maldives Police Service (MPS) and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) 4.8 nautical miles west of Mandhoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll. MNDF said the security forces found suspected drug shipments stored on the vessel. The security forces are further searching the vessel, according to MNDF.
Last month, MPS and MNDF, acting on foreign intelligence, apprehended an Iranian flagged vessel from Maldivian waters and confiscated 70 kilograms of drugs worth USD 4 million.
