Ministry of Tourism has revealed the tourist arrivals to Maldives spiked by 15.8% by the end of September compared to the same period of last year.
The total number of tourists to Maldives by September was 1,251,690 compared to the 1,080,459 that arrived by September last year, according to official statistics published by the ministry. The arrivals in September also increased by 9.3% with 117,619 tourists arriving in Maldives, while the number of arrivals in 2018 was 107,620.
With over 1.2 million tourists visiting Maldives by September, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) expects to achieve its set target earlier, by the end of November.
MMPRC had initially targeted bringing 1.5 million tourists by the end of the year.
