MDP cautions members to refrain from encouraging opposition

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has called on its members to refrain from taking part in any activities that may encourage political activities of the opposition.

In a statement, MDP asked its parliament members, council members and party members to refrain from promoting any slogans that may encourage the opposition. The statement also reminded the members that participating in rallies of the opposition and issuing statements in favour of the opposition are in violation of the party charters and societal disposition.

Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Hassan Latheef has said it is mandatory for political appointees to support government policies. He further said political appointees who hesitate to promote government policies must leave the positions or be terminated immediately.

The statement from MDP comes at a time a large number of MDP members have expressed opinion against the report released by Maldives Democracy Network (MDN) mocking principles of Islam and disrespecting Prophet Mohamed.
