Ministry of Health, World Health Organisation (WHO) and other stakeholders are carrying nationwide research to identify the causes and the spread of the highly contagious disease.

Hepatitis B is a highly contagious viral infection that attacks the liver and causes both acute and chronic diseases. It causes liver inflammation which eventually results in liver failure.

Of the five types of hepatitis caused by viral infections, Hepatitis A is always an acute, short-term disease, while hepatitis B, C, and D are most likely to become ongoing and chronic. Hepatitis E is usually acute but can be particularly dangerous in pregnant women.

Eating contaminated food is one of the major causes of the disease. Better hygiene in all aspects of life is key to preventing the disease.

During the function, Health Minister Ameen also launched the Strategic Action Plan (SAP) of the health ministry. He said the approach of the ministry to combatting Hepatitis B is also part of the new SAP launched.
